The Survivors of Violence Foundation started as a result of the tragic Oklahoma booming in 1995. Dr. Greg Chernoff and Royia Grizzell developed the Foundation. Royia is a survivor of the 1995 Oklahoma terrorist bombing who received treatment from Dr. Chernoff after the bombing. Royia was referred to Dr. Chernoff by a surgeon in Oklahoma. Dr. Chernoff was asked help Royia who suffered extreme injuries to her face and neck.
Dr. Chernoff has conducted extensive research on scar improvement. Over the course of several years, Dr. Chernoff provided extensive care for Royia’s non-healing wounds and scars. Dr. Chernoff provided these treatments at no cost. The total cost to treat Royia was over $550,000.
Both Royia and Dr. Chernoff saw the need for survivors to receive care for their injuries and scars. Royia felt that every time she looked in the mirror, it was a constant reminder of the trauma she suffered from the terrorists.
Together they formed the Royia Grizzell foundation for Victims of Violence, which has now evolved to the “Survivors of Violence Foundation” providing care and treatment to survivors of violent acts, abuse, or injuries.
